It gives two adults 67.5 cm each — narrower than a single apiece, which is why couples who can fit a king usually prefer one. For one adult it is generous. At 190 cm long it suits sleepers up to roughly 6'0"; if either of you is taller, a king at 200 cm long is the better choice even if the extra width is not needed.
A double is the size most often ordered without measuring — and the size most often found to be tight. Two minutes with a tape measure is worth it.
