No, the gas struts do almost all the work. A small push opens it, the struts hold it up, and a gentle pull closes it. Anyone can use it.

They are rated for over 1,200 full lifts. With normal use that is decades. They can be replaced if needed, we stock them for every model.
Almost certainly. Ottoman tops are sized to UK mattress dimensions. Send us the mattress weight and we will confirm the strut rating before we build.
The base mechanism is one or the other. But you can pair an ottoman base with a fixed-drawer divan in the same fabric if you want both behaviours in one room.
